I recently came across the Census Bureau's annual Statistical Abstract of US Media usage. Americans are now spending more than 9-1/2 hours with the media every day. "Media" includes television, radio, the Internet and publications. Some of that time now includes those of you who can watch television and surf the Internet at the same time.
Sadly, the only numbers that are down are related to reading! Books and magazines are down. And it may come as no surprise that newspaper reading has also taken a hit. This certainly supports the sentiment of brokers around the country that newspaper advertising is producing an unacceptable Return-On-Investment.
Television viewing now accounts for 4-1/2 hours a day. Every Day. The annual average is now 1,555 hours per year. Wow! That's a lot of time our members could be applying to relationship marketing activities!
